Mr. Robert F. Poore - 2025
Robert Poore of Flora, Mississippi, is widely recognized as one of the state's most accomplished landscape architects. He earned a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture from MSU in 1986. In 2023, his career achievements were honored by the American Society of Landscape Architects with his induction into the ASLA Council of Fellows- one of the highest distinctions in the profession.
Over a 42-year career, Poore has devoted his work to interpreting and protecting Mississippi's natural landscapes through designs that work in harmony with ecological processes. His projects enhance native habitats while celebrating the state's plants, culture, and sense of place. Nationally recognized ecological design pioneer Carol Franklin, FASLA, has described Poore as a leading interpreter of ecological design, noting his ability to unite Mississippi's natural systems with human experience to create sustainable, functional, and enduring landscapes.
A native Mississippian, Poore's design philosophy is rooted in regional identity while striving for artistic excellence. His work has helped establish a modern southern design vocabulary and serves as a national model for landscape architects committed to transforming the places they call home.
Poore and his wife, Jean, have lived in Flora for more than five decades. They have two children and four grandchildren, with ties spanning generations to MSU.
